 ‘RACE‘ is an association of the automobile engineering students. The Royal club was formed with the purpose of sharpening the skills of students so as to make them efficient automobile engineers of the future. As an automobile engineer, one has to be adroit in trouble-shooting, analysis, failure diagnosis, etc.
RACE hope to impart such dexterities to its members by practical field training, interaction with industry experts, corporate visits, etc. To keep them updated with the latest technology and state-of-art trends in the field of auto engineering, seminars & symposiums are also organised. The major ones conducted so far are listed below :

RVCR Technology (Rotary Variable Compression Ratio) – As Indians, we ought to be proud of the fact that a new technology developed indigenously by one amongst us, is going to revolutionise the way, vehicle engines work and produce power.
Dr. Das Ajee Kamath (Chief Engineer, Merchant Navy) has been in this foray for the past 2-3 years and spent about Rs. 26 Lakh in this venture. He has also applied for a patent with the US & European authorities. Unlike conventional Internal Combustion engines, this engine has a rotary piston (as opposed to the reciprocating type) with vanes on its periphery for compressing the air-fuel mixture. By varying the position of the vanes, the compression ratio can be altered to match the requirements of power, speed, fuel efficiency and fuel-type (Petrol / Diesel). Upon a special invitation by the officials of RACE, Mr. Kamath consented to present a seminar for the benefit of the students, which was held on the auspicious occasion of the inauguration of RACE. Presently 6 of our final year students are doing their project-work with him assisting in engine assembly, testing & analysis of various parameters (Noise, Vibration & Heat). In this regard, they have developed a working model of the engine graphically using the CAD-ProE design software.

STG Engineers – CAM (Computer Aided Machining): A one-day seminar was conducted by STG Engineers, sub-contractors for HMT, on the multifaceted aspects of CAM. The students were enlightened on how it is being practiced in the industry and its scope of application. Considering many of its advantages like speed, accuracy and precision in developing models of varying shape & intricacies, it finds enormous potential in the area of New Product Development.

Industrial Training : Many of the students have done their in-plant training at various service centers to get hands on experience on the work. (KSRTC workshops, authorized service centers of Maruti, Hyundai etc.)
